Why your marketing is making you invisible…

Send to Kindle

Marketing is a reflection of your power in the world. It is your energy manifesting which attracts customers/clients to you. If it isn’t working or works sometimes it’s not that marketing doesn’t work, -well you can’t blame your tools can you – it is simply that you are not being powerful in manifesting and attracting or seeing the links between marketing and manifesting!

Social media has made most people sit back and believe that they are marketing their business and services or products. Setting up an event on Facebook is hardly difficult and you can invite your 1000’s of friends who must of course be remotely interested in your work, right?

In fact it is as if you are becoming more and more invisible. Sounds odd doesn’t it, you think you are out there, you do the eZine campaigning, social media and you even go networking. You speak to potential clients yet your marketing gives you not much more than a damp squib.

How can marketing make you invisible?

Here are the 3 most important reasons why your marketing is not working…there will be more but in my studies of watching clients and the response to my own marketing this is what I have learned. Read these and then stop making these mistakes and get your marketing to work for you!

You don’t really know what you are offering. I know you probably think you do but when I start working with clients you realise they are copying a little bit of this and that from others in their niche or industry and trying to hash it together as their own offering. Getting clear on what you love to do and the best way to deliver it is a reiterative step in my experience. As you grow, expand and transform so too will your services and more will always be revealed about what you love to do. It develops with your confidence in you and what you offer. If you aren’t clear you can’t manifest. If you can’t manifest you can’t attract and your marketing will suffer and not give you the rewards.

You are using marketing to ‘test the market.’ This is the suck it and see what happens or what I call chucking sticks in the air and seeing which one, if any lands. Sometimes this pays off but even when it does all it does is lull you into a false sense of security as then you wonder why this approach doesn’t work another time. I see it where people launch something, quite often something new a week and it’s the same offering rehashed into a new format, new title but it’s almost like I have started with this so I will finish with this being successful even if it kills my business! Market testing is relevant and useful as it can inform the way you design your programmes or products but using your programmes or products to test the market is just putting you in the line of rejection which can for most be a very icky energy to deal with. This approach shows doubt and uncertainty and a lack of commitment to your mission and as story goes that is the energy for your attraction and manifestation. If you don’t believe others won’t and the universe can only reflect to you your own uncertainty and that will appear in your marketing.

You follow someone else’s process to marketing. I would not describe myself as a marketing coach, but what I am is a spiritual geek that likes to understand why things work and when they don’t both for me and my clients and others I may be watching as they rise and maybe fall. Most people have no idea why something filled or sold and why the next time it didn’t. It’s easier to blame everything outside of them while holding the silent pain of failure deep inside. Yet each product or service has its own optimum marketing approach which can be based on a system but the system has to be right for you. If you aren’t a public speaker getting out to speak about your product or service is probably going to be awful on so many levels, you could of course get help on public speaking but that would be a choice.  Just doing marketing by numbers and someone else’s numbers is not a good idea as the truth is most coaches will not share the full truth with you and in reality most of them don’t know why there stuff works either, so their systems are missing steps and fail to include the key ingredient which is you, your power and the influence of those two things in marketing. Learning how to be powerful and using that power in all areas of your business is the no. 1 ingredient to get your marketing to work and fine tuning your intuition so you can know how and when to market and to whom.

Marketing is a powerful activity and for you to see the results you have to be powerful yourself, not by shouting the loudest but being aligned to your purpose and value.

  1. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with the fact that it has to be you and your energy which is marketing and not the steps which others claim are the holy grail. It may be their holy grail but isn’t necessarily someone else’s. This has been coming up for me in various contexts recenly – I’m listening!

    • The step approach to anything is great but the best way to teach someone the steps is not to make them follow you which so many coaches do – and they shortchange themselves from having more success stories as well as their clients is to teach people how too integrate and make the steps their own and understand how they work in relation to the steps…well that’s my approach and understanding of how to empower people to be their best ;)

  2. You can never follow someone else’s processes when it comes to marketing – you have different visions and different ideal customers, and if you follow their process rigidly and you don’t have identical knowledge and skill you’ll fall flat on your face.

Am awaiting the outcome of Jackie’s periphery… ;)

    • agree but you can learn from a system for sure…. it’s the marketing by numbers approach and sadly though I do think incorrect use (or deliberately thinking you can do it without much effort or investment) of social media can add to the invisibility cloak… ;-)

  3. Another point I would add here is perseverance… so many people give up too soon without realizing that your market (depending what it is) can take much longer to build than you’d like.

Of course there’s no point flogging a dead horse, either – and deciding when a marketing method … or your service offering, for that matter … needs a change of direction isn’t easy. But don’t be tempted to nix your efforts until you’re certain they are not just slow builders.

  4. All excellent points, Sarupa—and I think the one about clarity can be really tough. It’s something I’ve been struggling with lately (and I hope making progress with).
